Who is Ian Smith the Comedian?
Ian Smith is a multi-award winning comedian, actor and writer. He has appeared on BBC Fresh From the Fringe, BBC3 panel show Sweat the Small Stuff and BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show. He was also one third of popular Dave podcast, The Magic Sponge, alongside Rob Beckett, which has previously topped the iTunes comedy charts. Ian Smith's Comedy Awards Ian’s Edinburgh Fringe shows have received critical acclaim, an Amused Moose Comedy Award, ThreeWeeks Editors’ Award, various nominations and runs at Soho Theatre. In 2015 he was also part of the hugely successful, multi-award winning, Richard Gadd – Waiting for Gaddot. His latest show Half-Life received rave reviews and played to sold-out crowds. Where has Ian Smith performed his brilliant comedy? His last three shows have seen him invited to perform at New Zealand Comedy Festival, and perform at the prestigious New Zealand Comedy Gala (TVNZ). This year Ian will also be travelling to Adelaide and Melbourne Comedy Festivals as part of Best of the Edinburgh Fest. Ian Smith's Acting Ian is also a talented actor – starting off as a lead in BBC2 sitcom Popatron. He has gone on to star alongside Katherine Parkinson in Sky comedy Officially Special and have a leading role in BBC1 drama, The Ark– as well as a number of supporting roles including Siblings, Pls Like and BBC drama The Syndicate. Ian Smith's Comedy Writing Experience Ian is a regular writer on The News Quiz, The Now Show and Newsjack(BBC Radio 4), as well writing for various other comedians (including for Mock the Week). He’s also written two of his own web series – Hope You Come Up Here and the Chortle Award nominated 100 Reasons to Hate… His debut Radio 4 show, the comedy documentary Girl Stuck in a Basketball Hoop will be broadcast in May.
